The co-chairs of Bradley University's presidential search committee said they have a candidate.

The committee held a second round of interviews with finalists last week. The committee selected a candidate from the pool, who met with the university's board of trustees.

"The committee and board of trustees recognize the importance of this process and are committed to doing our due diligence in order to find the right leader for our institution. Please know we are moving at a deliberate speed with the hope of naming Bradley’s next president soon," said committee co-chairs James Shadid and Kathi Holst in an e-mail to Bradley employees.

Current Bradley University president Gary Roberts announced his retirement last year. He plans to step down in May.

The university's new president will contend with an $8 million budget deficit. The university is weighing cutting or consolidating several programs.
