Can't Run The Boston Marathon? Do It In Bloomington Instead

Even for a marathon runner, Vicente Adame doesn’t know when to quit.

Adame, 47, of Bloomington, was supposed to run the Boston Marathon on Monday, after finally qualifying for a highly coveted spot in the race. But the marathon was postponed until September because of the coronavirus.

“I’m a little crazy, so I decided to do it in town,” Adame said.

Yes, Adame ran his marathon in Bloomington on Monday morning. He did almost 11 loops around a 2.45-mile route near his home in the Founders Grove neighborhood. He finished in 3 hours, 21 minutes, and 43 seconds.

“Running 26 miles is pretty tough. And when you do it with a large group of people it makes it a little easier,” Adame said. “But running alone—it’s very tough mentally. Luckily, my 11-year-old decided to ride his bike alongside for the entire 26.2 miles. And he did it.”

Adame also got some support from neighbors who saw him on one of his many loops.

“I decided to run today because I had already put in the long miles, the long runs, and I had nothing else to do. I had already taken the day off work. So I decided to just run around the neighborhood,” Adame said.

Adame started running about eight years ago. He qualified for the Boston Marathon with his time at the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon.

When he’s not running, Adame works in real estate and for a janitorial services company. He plans to run the postponed Boston Marathon in September.
