Governor Bruce Rauner wasn't at a press conference in the Normal town hall today, but his words were. State Representative Tom Bennett of Gibson City, Dan Brady of Bloomington, and State Senators Bill Brady and Jason Barickman of the twin cities all called for the house to convene again. Dan Brady says Republicans have solutions to the state budget problems, including higher education. Brady says his bill would provide $1.6-Billion for state colleges and universities, and $375-Million for MAP grants. He says his bill also provides funding. "It is tied to the "Emergency Budget Act," which leader Durkin has filed as well. What that "Emergency Budget Act" does is allows the Governor to go in, and basically fund sweep." Dan Brady says his bill is contingent upon giving the Governor that power. The Governor had initially proposed a 30% cut in higher ed funding, but now is will to settle for cutting 20%. The Illinois House is currently not scheduled to return to Springfield until early April.
