Can an anonymous person bump a candidate off the ballot? The Illinois State Board of Elections will decide next week.
An objection to Republican 17th District congressional candidate Bill Fawell's petitions was filed two minutes before deadline on December 9. Board spokesman Matt Dietrich says the objector didn't fill out the required identifying information.
Fawell blasted the unknown objector in a press release Wednesday.
Dietrich says he believes this is the first time this has ever happened. The board will vote December 17t whether or not to accept the objection.
Fawell was the GOP candidate in 2018. But the Illinois Republican Party disavowed him after he touted 9/11 conspiracy theories. Esther Joy King and Eugene Farrell are also running for the Republican nomination.
