McLean County Circuit Clerk Don Everhart said he’s running for a fourth term.

In a statement late Monday, Everhart touted his administrative and managerial experience leading a staff of over 70. The circuit clerk is the official record keeper for all judicial matters in the county.

“I’m proud of my office’s ability to provide effective services while working with a reduced budget each year and within the limitations of the county’s case management system,” Everhart said. “I’m hopeful the voters will return me the office of the McLean County circuit clerk to continue to expand upon our previous successes and to see the fruition of a much sought after (case management system) – and the improvements it would afford.”

Everhart serves on the county team that’s looking to update the current case management system. He also chairs the Technology Committee for the Illinois Association of Court Clerks.

Everhart ran unopposed in 2016 but is now expected to face his first Democratic opponent in 12 years.

Former Democratic County Board member Erik Rankin announced Monday he was running for circuit clerk. Everhart last faced a contested general election in 2008, when he defeated Democrat Brian Plath with 52.8% of the vote to win his first term.

Circuit clerk is one of at least three countywide positions that have attracted Democratic challengers for 2020. Earlier this month, Democrat Abbi Sorrells announced a run for coroner against incumbent Republican Kathy Yoder. Democrat Rob Fazzini is running for auditor, which is now held by incumbent Republican Michelle Anderson.

Republicans currently hold all eight countywide offices.
