First Positive Central Illinois COVID-19 Cases Diagnosed

Centers for Disease Control

A Central Illinois patient has tested positive for COVID-19 at a UnityPoint clinic.

The Illinois Department of Public Health said a Woodford County resident in their 70s has tested positive for COVID-19. A Cumberland County resident and two St. Clair County residents also tested positive. There are now 64 total cases.

A UnityPoint spokesperson said responses to the novel coronavirus will be coordinated with local and state health officials.

"The safety and care of our patients, their families, guests and team members are always our top priorities," said spokeswoman Allyson McKean in an e-mail.

Peoria-area health officials are holding a press conference Saturday afternoon.

An Illinois Department of Public Health spokesperson referred information requests to Gov. J.B. Pritzker's daily COVID-19 press briefing at 2:30 p.m. A Peoria City/County Health Department official promised to get back in touch soon, but had no information immediately available.
