Former Sheridan Village Bergner's Slated For Demolition

It appears the former flagship Bergner's store at Sheridan Village is destined for the wrecking ball.

An employee of the city of Peoria's Community Development Department confirmed Friday that owners Northbridge Investment Management have applied for a permit to demolish the store.

Bergner's locations at Sheridan Village, the Shoppes at Grand Prairie, Pekin, Galesburg, and Peru closed after corporate parent Bon-Ton went bankrupt last year.

The department store chain was founded in Peoria more than 130 years ago. The Sheridan Village location opened in the late 1950s.
