Sunday, August 7 is Friendship Day.  In honor of that, The Tea Ladies have organized a special event at the Vrooman Mansion in Bloomington.  'Treasure Thy Friend - Celebrating the Joy of Friendship' is at 3:30 PM and reveals the special meaning of friendship in the Victorian Era.

  • Tea Ladies Nancy Perzo and Karen Patton will reach back to 1860 and cover much of the Victorian era in their exploration of friendship between women.
  • 19th century friends were deep, as women relied heavily upon each other.
  • Women friends would spend time together scrapbooking, making music, creating arts and crafts and more.
  • The Tea Ladies feel that we've lost our way regarding friendship and have a lot to learn from the Victorians.  They advise not letting technology take over, and to make an effort to spend quality time away from the smart phones and with your best buddies, just to laugh and chat and strengthen your bonds with each other.
Reporter, content producer and former All Things Considered host, Laura Kennedy is a native of the Midwest who occasionally affects an English accent just for the heck of it. Related to two U.S. presidents, Kennedy appalled her family by going into show business.
