Horton Fieldhouse is due to get a $1.2 million roof replacement.

Illinois State University's Horton Fieldhouse is set to get a new roof.
The university's Board of Trustees is expected to approve a $1.2 million contract Friday to replace the roof of the multi-use building.

Athletics Director Larry Lyons said the roof of the 58-year-old facility is showing its age.

“Hopefully we’ll have that done fairly quickly before the football season really kicks off,” Lyons said. “The last time that roof was replaced was 1993 so it’s time for that roof to be replaced.”

An ISU spokesman said the work is expected to begin in July and would be finished in November.

Lyons said ISU also plans to replace the floor and track at Horton soon.

“I call it a great old barn,” Lyons said. “It serves the campus in so many different ways. It serves the community in so many different ways.”

Lyons noted ISU is looking to add a second indoor practice facility that could also serve athletics, academics, and the public, but he said Horton isn't going anywhere.

Trustees will consider hiring Union Roofing of Bloomington to do the work. It was the lowest bidder.

Trustees To Name Rooms In Redbird Arena

An anonymous donor has made a six figure gift to Illinois State University to have the women's basketball locker rooms named after former coach Jill Hutchison. Trustees will take up the recommendation Friday.

The money also pays for renovation and upgrades to the locker room. Hutchison is a hall of fame coach who is the all time wins leader for both men's and women's basketball. She coached two Olympians among dozens of standout players over her 28 year career. Trustees will also consider naming the Athletic Therapy Room at the arena after the Glen Lynch family.
