A McLean County jury found a suburban Chicago man guilty of sexually assaulting a woman he met on a dating site after going on a date in Normal.
Michael Vegeler, 46, of Bolingbrook was convicted Friday on two counts of sexual assault stemming from the incident two years ago.
The victim, who reportedly met Vegeler on Match.com, told authorities she had been drugged. The Normal Police Department determined the attack had been planned.
"The Normal Police Department and the McLean County state's attorney’s office are committed to collaboratively investigating cases and doing everything possible to hold offenders accountable and provide justice for the victims," officials said in a statement Saturday.
Criminal sexual assault is a Class 1 felony, punishable by four to 15 years in prison.
