Marshalls has more than 1,000 stores in the United States.

The company that owns Marshallsdepartment stores plans to open a location in Bloomington-Normal in fall 2019.
Marketing specialist for TXJ Companies Katie Babb confirmed the news, but said the company hasn’t determined a specific site.

“Typically when we do release these statements and announce these stores, we tend to do so when the time is right for us competitively, so that tends to be within a few weeks of the actual opening date,” Babb said.

TJX also operates HomeGoods and T.J. Maxx which have Bloomington stores.

“When we are considering opening a new store in a new city, we look for areas with the right mix of demographics or characteristics, which could include anything from families with children to home ownership or thriving retail area and areas where we know shoppers are fashion conscious yet value conscious,” Babb said. “So we expect to be very successful in that area.”

Marshalls has more than 1,000 stores in the United States.

Babb didn’t offer more specifics about the possible store in the Twin Cities.

Zach Dietmeier, vice president of marketing and communications with the Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council, said Marshalls hasn’t contacted the EDC.

Normal's Economic Development Director Sally Heffernan said she was aware of Marshalls' potential interest in Bloomington-Normal, but said the company hadn't formally reached out to local officials.
