The McLean County Health Department reports 44 new COVID-19 cases from a batch of about 2,100 test results returned over the weekend.

The McLean County Health Department reports 44 more confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases, as the county’s testing positivity rate fell nearly half a percentage point to 1.9%.

Two more COVID-19 patients were hospitalized over the weekend, bringing the total to 24 patients, the department said Monday. There are fewer intensive care beds open than at the end of last week—88% of ICU beds are in use, up from 73% on Friday. Overall bed capacity nearly doubled to 11%.

Another 183 McLean County residents are isolating at home, while an additional 23 are now considered recovered.

Monday’s cases were found in a batch of about 2,100 test results returned over the weekend. There have been 14,670 total infections reported in McLean County since the start of the pandemic.

The county’s active caseload rose above 200 for the first time in a week.

Just over 41,000 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in McLean County. That’s up about 3,250 over the weekend. State data indicate nearly 15,000 county residents are fully vaccinated. That’s more than 8.5% of the population, but still behind the statewide rate of nearly 9%.

There are four McLean County vaccine clinics scheduled for this week:

  • Tuesday, March 9 at the Grossinger Motors Arena in downtown Bloomington for first doses only
  • Wednesday, March 10 at the Activity and Recreation Center (ARC) in Normal for second doses only
  • Thursday, March 11 at Grossinger for first and second doses
  • Friday, March 12 at the ARC for second doses only

MCHD reminds residents that as more infectious COVID variants become increasingly prevalent, the county could see another surge in cases if residents don’t continue taking precautions like social distancing, wearing a face covering, limiting social gatherings and adhering to quarantine and isolation rules when ill.
