MCHD Reports 117 More COVID Cases; Positivity Rate Stays Steady

Reditus Labs
McLean County health officials confirmed 117 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday. Those positives were found in a batch of about 1,100 tests returned overnight.

The McLean County Health Department reported 117 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, as the county’s testing positivity rate remained just above 9%.

That marks the third straight day of a testing positivity rate below 12%—one of the metrics the Illinois Department of Public Health looks at before relaxing Tier 3 mitigations. But the county and the medical region that includes it are missing other benchmarks. Friday marks one month since the stricter mitigations took effect statewide.

McLean County hospital capacity constricted slightly overnight. One additional patient from McLean County is now hospitalized with COVID-19, for a total of 16 patients. Intensive care bed use is at 91%, up from 77% on Tuesday. Meanwhile, total open bed capacity held at 9%.

According to federal data released this week, Bloomington-Normal hospitals have about 32 intensive care beds.

Carle Health’s COVID dashboard indicates they have 18 COVID patients at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, including five in intensive care.

Another 1,202 people in McLean County are isolating at home. The number of recovered patients increased by 126 overnight. No new deaths were reported on Wednesday.
