MCHD Reports 12 More COVID Cases; Positivity Rate Inches Up

McLean County health officials on Thursday reported 12 new confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases, as the county’s testing positivity rate ticked up slightly to 2.4%.

The new cases were found in a batch of about 800 test results returned overnight. The total caseload since the start of the pandemic is now 14,593.

There are 21 people from McLean County hospitalized with COVID-19⁠—down one patient overnight. Another 173 people are isolating at home, while an additional 13 are now considered recovered.

Bloomington-Normal hospital capacity improved slightly overnight. About 8% of all hospital beds are open⁠—more than double the capacity the day before (3%). Intensive care bed use dropped by 7%, with 81% of beds in use.

The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) opened registration for three vaccine clinics. Next week, first-dose appointments are available on Tuesday, March 9, and Thursday, March 11. Another clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16. All will be held at the Grossinger Motors Arena in downtown Bloomington.

About 36,761 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in McLean County, according to MCHD data. State figures show 12,647 McLean County residents are fully vaccinated. That’s about 7.33% of the population.

Illinois Department of Public Health data indicates the 7-day rolling average of vaccines administered in McLean County is 1,075.
