The COVID-19 testing site at the Interstate Center in Bloomington averaged a record 367 daily tests last week.

The recent surge in coronavirus cases in McLean County took at least a brief break on Monday with three new COVID-19 cases reported.
Four of the previous six days saw double-digit rises in new coronavirus cases in the county, according to data from the McLean County Health Department. The 67 new cases over the previous seven days matched the largest one-week risesince the start of the pandemic.

“COVID-19 remains a serious concern in our community,” said McLean County Health Department Administrator Jessica McKnight. “We encourage everyone to continue working together to help control the spread of the virus to keep our county, region, and state in a safe place.”

The three new cases bring McLean County’s total of confirmed cases to 385. The county has 67 active cases, including one patient hospitalized and 66 people isolating at home. Fifteen patients have died and 302 have been released from quarantine and are considered recovered.

The county’s seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate is 2.2% while the overall positivity rate is 2%, based on more than 19,000 tests since the start of the pandemic.

“As testing increases across the state, and with more people out and about, we expect to continue seeing our positive case numbers increase,” McKnight said.

The community-based testing site at the Interstate Center in Bloomington conducted a record number of tests over the last week, averaging 367 per day. That includes 258 on Saturday and 277 on Sunday. Weekends typically see lighter traffic at the site.

Testing is conducted daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tests are free and available to everyone.
