McLean County health officials added 142 new confirmed or probable COVID-19 cases over the weekend, as the county’s testing positivity rate held at 4.9%.

The active caseload continues to rise; it now totals 424, marking two straight weeks of increases. The active caseload hadn’t surpassed 400 since the first week of February.

There are 27 McLean County residents hospitalized with COVID-19 complications -- the same number as Friday. However, intensive care bed capacity tightened. Currently, 85% of ICU beds are in use. That’s up from 69% ahead of the weekend.

Overall bed capacity held mostly steady, with 17% of all Bloomington-Normal hospital beds available.

The new cases were found in a batch of about 2,900 test results returned since Friday.

There are 397 people isolating at home, while an additional 70 are now considered recovered.

The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) reports 68,901 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the county. That’s up nearly 2,700 over the weekend.

The county currently meets two of the state’s criteria for remaining in Phase 4 of coronavirus mitigations: a positivity rate below 6.5% and ICU capacity above 20% for three consecutive days.

However, McLean County falls short on the goal for number of hospitalized patients. The state wants to see no increases for seven of the previous 10 days. McLean County has seen nine straight days of increases, according to MCHD.
