The McLean County Health Department reported 111 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday.

The county reported 111 new confirmed and probable daily coronavirus cases, from a batch of about 1,500 tests tabulated overnight. Seventy-one more people have completed their time in quarantine since Tuesday and 15,216 people are now considered recovered.

Currently, 526 county residents are isolating at home.

McLean County’s seven-day testing positivity rate rose to 5.7%, its highest mark since Jan. 25. The cumulative positivity rate is 5.6%, based on more than 284,900 tests conducted since the start of the pandemic.

MCHD public affairs coordinator Marianne Manko has said part of the recent increase in coronavirus cases is tied to youth sports and more frequent and larger indoor gatherings.

“We have had an increased amount of student athletic teams quarantined/isolated versus in recent months,” said Manko, adding the department also expected to see a rise in cases following spring break travel.

Single-dose vaccine at ISU

Meanwhile, Illinois State University officials said Wednesday the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has made available 3,100 additional doses of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine.

ISU has scheduled vaccination clinics on April 8, 9 and 12 for the one-dose shot.

According to IDPH, nearly 81,000 vaccine doses have been administered in McLean County. The state health department said 16.5 of McLean County residents are fully vaccinated, compared to the state average of 19%.

The Woodford County Health Department is hosting a vaccination clinic until 6 p.m. today at Case New Holland in Goodfield. That clinic is open to people who live or work in Woodford, Tazewell or Peoria counties.
