McLean County Tops 50,000 COVID Vaccinations

More than 50,000 COVID-19 vaccines have been put in people’s arms in McLean County, while nearly 11% of the county’s residents have received both vaccine doses.The county’s rate of fully vaccinated still trails the state average of 12.3%, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH).

McLean County has started distributing COVID vaccines to people in the Phase 1B+ population that includes people under age 65 with various underlying health conditions.

The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) is taking appointments for vaccinations at Grossinger Motors Arena in downtown Bloomington Wednesday through Saturday this week.

The health department notes 16 and 17-year-olds must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and are only eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine.

Nearly 4.2 million COVID vaccines have been distributed in Illinois.

New cases

MCHD announced 40 new confirmed and probable coronavirus cases on Tuesday, while 26 people have been released from quarantine since Monday.

The McLean County Health Department reported 40 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday.

The county reports 204 people are isolating at home and 14,469 people are considered recovered from COVID-19.

The number of McLean County residents hospitalized due to COVID-19 held steady at 23. Eighty-eight percent of Bloomington-Normal hospital beds are full, and 77% of intensive care beds are occupied. Both have increased since Monday.

McLean County’s rolling testing positivity rate rose a half-point to 2.8% in the last 24 hours, while the county’s cumulative positivity rate is 5.7%, based on more than 259,700 tests conducted since the start of the pandemic.

McLean County has reported 175 COVID-related deaths since the start of the pandemic.
