Midwest Food Bank plans to send disaster relief to Texas following a winter storm that has lefts hundreds of thousands of people without electricity for days amid one of the state’s worst winters in decades.
The food bank based in Normal said the Salvation Army in Arlington requested over 4,000 family food boxes be send to its facility. The food bank plans to send one trailer load of boxes from its warehouse in Normal Thursday afternoon and plans to deliver a second trailer on Friday.
“We’re blessed to be able to help our neighbors to the South,” says Mike Hoffman, Procurement Director of Midwest Food Bank. “MFB is ready to continue to help Texans for as long as necessary.”
The food boxes have enough nonperishable food to feed a family of four for four to five days, Midwest Food Bank said.
Tara Ingham, executive director of Midwest Food Bank in Normal, said volunteers have can a shipment on the road within 24 hours of a call.
“Our dedicated volunteers and generous donors allow MFB to bring help and hope to those in need.”
Midwest Food Bank also has facilities in Morton and Peoria. The non-profit requests donations to help cover the cost of fuel and supplies.
