Peoria Man Faces Charges in Gas Station Robbery

A 23-year-old Peoria man faces several felony charges after an armed robbery at a West Peoria gas station on Wednesday morning.

Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell said Johnny Bailey struck a clerk in the head with a handgun several times during the robbery at the Freedom Gas Station on Farmington Road.

Moments later, Bailey was spotted by deputies coming out of the nearby woods. He was wearing clothing matching the suspect's clothing that was captured on gas station surveillance video. He also had a handgun and undisclosed amount of cash in his backpack, police said.

Bailey was arrested for aggravated robbery, aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and possession of a weapon by a felon.

The store clerk is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
