Peoria Public Library Beginning Curbside Pickup on Wednesday

Peoria Public Radio

The Peoria Public Library is beginning curbside pickup of books and other items starting Wednesday.Library director Randall Yelverton said patrons can call ahead every Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 9-11 a.m. to place orders of up to five items at a time. Orders can also be placed online.

"We've had patrons demand to have some access to our library materials, and we wanted to be able to offer that to folks as soon as it was safe to do so," he said.Yelverton said the curbside pickup model is compliant with the governor's modified stay-at-home order. A library spokeswoman said the library is also moving ahead with the blessing of the Peoria City/County Health Department. The library will call patrons back when their items are ready for pickup at the Main, North, or Lakeview branch libraries.Yelverton said library employees will wear masks and load books into a side door or trunk of vehicles to maintain social distancing precautions.Yelverton said the service is available regionally."We're not limiting it to just Peorians. If your library card has worked at Peoria in the past, it will continue to do so," he said.Due dates on all materials are extended to June 12. Yelverton said items returned via the book drop will remain quarantined for three days before they're returned to circulation. We’re living in unprecedented times when information changes by the minute.
