Peoria St. Patrick's Parade Postponed

Peoria is postponing its St. Patrick's Day Parade over COVID-19 concerns.

The St. Patrick's Society announced yesterday the March 17 parade was still on, with some restrictions. But after discussions with local authorities, the decision was made to postpone the parade.

"With no COVID-19 cases identified in the region, it is still important to limit the spread of the virus with measures such as limiting or canceling larger scale activities as an important preventative measure. This situation is evolving and being assessed continuously," said Dr. Gregg Stoner, medical director for the Peoria City/County Health Department.

The IHSA Boys Basketball Tournament this weekend was also closed to the public at the recommendation of the Peoria City/County Health Department.

The city of Peoria warns there may be school closures, nursing home and hospital visiting restrictions and other activity cancellations.

There are currently no confirmed COVID-19 cases in Central Illinois.
