Confirmed COVID-19 cases continued to climb statewide on Saturday.

McLean County reported one new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Saturday while the state logged 2,119 new cases and 80 additional deaths. Two of those deaths were in central Illinois: one in Macon County, the other in Kankakee County.

In McLean County, the tally is now 88 confirmed cases. One person remains hospitalized.

In all, 41,777 Illinois residents have tested positive for the coronavirus. The statewide death toll is 1,874 people.

The Illinois Department of Public Health also notes testing continues to increase; 11,985 tests were run in the state from Friday to Saturday.

During Gov. JB Pritzker’s daily briefing, he praised the thousands of volunteers throughout the state who have stepped forward. Pritzker singled out the East Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging for distributing 5,000 emergency food packs throughout the region with partnering organizations.

“There has been an outpouring of individual Illinoisans; 11,000 have come forward during the pandemic to help nearly 2 million people, each volunteer making a difference with their kindness, decency, and generosity,” Pritzker said.

Saturday is the last day of National Volunteer Week, and Pritzker said he wanted to honor those who power the statewide network of nonprofit organizations.
