Thirteen more Tri-County residents have died from COVID-19, while health officials on Friday reported 319 new coronavirus cases in the region.
The latest figures push the area’s death toll to 448 and the infection count to 28,396 since the start of the pandemic – an increase of 1,140 illnesses since Monday.
Seven of the latest victims were from Tazewell County, five from Peoria County and one was from Woodford County. Eight were associated with long-term care facilities, and all were in their 70s or older except for a woman in her 60s.
Peoria-area hospitals report 90 patients being treated for COVID-19, down from 112 on Thursday, with 28 people in intensive care units. Active cases jumped by 291 to 2,930.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 9,277 new infections and 126 additional deaths on Friday, increasing the statewide figures to 1,017,322 cases and 17,395 fatalities. The preliminary seven-day positivity rate dipped to 9.5%.
As of Thursday night, hospitals across the state were treating 3,777 patients with COVID-19, including 780 people in ICUs and 422 on ventilators.
