Tri-County Adds 172 COVID-19 Cases; Peoria County Nears 100K Vaccinations

With Peoria County on the verge of topping 100,000 vaccinations, Tri-County health officials Tuesday reported 172 new COVID-19 cases in the past day.

The region's infection count since the start of the pandemic climbed to 38,465, while the death toll remains at 602 with no new fatalities reported.

Peoria-area hospitals have 127 patients admitted for COVID-19, including 35 in intensive care units. Another 1,923 area residents with the coronavirus are isolating at home.

Meanwhile, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) vaccine figures updated Tuesday have the Tri-County at 188,142 total shots administered, an increase of 1,959 from Monday. Peoria County alone is at 99,235 total injections.

The region is up to 76,629 fully vaccinated residents, or 21.8% of the population. Broken down, Peoria County is at 40,576 (22.5%), Tazewell at 27,896 (21.1%), and Woodford at 8,157 (21.2%).

Illinois as a whole has totaled 6.4 million shots in arms and 2.4 million fully dosed individuals, or slightly more than 19% of residents.

The IDPH reported 2,931 new infections and 13 more deaths linked to COVID-19 since Monday. The state has tallied 1.26 million infections and 21,395 lives lost.
