Tri-County Adds 500 New COVID-19 Cases In One Week

Health officials announced Friday the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Tri-County area since the start of the pandemic has risen to 2,633.

The figure marks an increase of 515 over the past seven days, with 304 of those coming in Peoria County. The week also saw three residents succumb to the disease.

Officials reported 93 new infections on Friday alone, with 55 in Peoria County and 38 in Tazewell. No new cases were reported in Woodford County, and the region’s death toll remained at 46.

The Tri-County’s recovery rate stands at 62.2%, while 35 patients remain hospitalized with 12 in intensive care.

Illinois announced 2,264 new cases and 25 additional deaths Friday. The state’s case count stands at 202,691 with 7,721 fatalities. Fourteen counties in the state currently are considered to be at a warning level for the coronavirus.
