As Illinois moves past the 2 million mark for COVID-19 vaccinations, the Tri-County area also continues to reach vaccine milestones, approaching 90,000 administered doses and eclipsing 20,000 people getting their second doses.
Figures updated Friday on the Illinois Department of Public Health’s online database show 20,955 area residents, or 5.96% of the population, are now fully vaccinated for COVID-19, with 89,139 total doses administered in the region.
Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties combined to perform 3,534 injections since Thursday, boosting the area’s daily average over the past week to 2,101. The website indicates 2,567 of those shots (72.6%) went to individuals receiving their second dose.
Tri-County health officials reported one new fatality linked to coronavirus since Thursday, pushing the region’s death toll from the pandemic to 551, including 35 this month. The latest victim is a Woodford County woman in her 70s who was not associated with a long-term care facility.
With 76 additional COVID-19 infections in the past day, the region’s case count since mid-March increased to 33,775. Nine of the 31 coronavirus patients currently admitted to Peoria-area hospitals are in intensive care units, while 676 area residents are isolating at home.
Illinois health officials announced 2,219 new COVID cases and 63 additional deaths, increasing the state's totals to 1,170,902 illnesses and 20,192 lives lost. The number of hospitalized patients dropped to 1,596, while the preliminary seven-day positivity rate is 3.3%.
The state added 83,673 vaccine injections since Thursday, bringimg the total to 2,060,706. Illinois’ rolling seven-day average for doses administered is 59,460, and 507,862 residents (4%) are now fully vaccinated.
