Update From WGLT General Manager R.C. McBride

Dear Friends,

We’re living in unprecedented times. Access to timely and factual information is quite literally a matter of life and death, and we take our responsibility to inform and educate the community very seriously.

WGLT and NPR will continue to be here for you. We do, however, need to make some changes to operate even more efficiently than we already do and to protect the health and well-being of our team so we can stay on the beat for you.

WGLT Programming Updates

  • Effective Wednesday, March 18, we will be sharing our Morning Edition and All Things Considered hosts with our sister station, WCBU in Peoria, so you will hear dual station identification at some points.
  • WGLT newscasts will remain in place during both newsmagazines from the WGLT newsroom.
  • Effective Thursday, March 19, Sound Ideas will go on hiatus until further notice. Here and Now will air at noon. All Things Considered will air at 6 p.m.
  • WGLT’s The Leadoff podcast will continue to air. If you’re unfamiliar with this, it’s a daily local news capsule heard mornings at 7:44. Now’s a great time to subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.

WGLT is Here For You

We will continue to bring you breaking news and press briefings from federal, state and local sources as they happen.

As always, you can get news on-air, online and via social media 24/7.

We know news from the voices and neighbors you know is comforting. We will continue to be here for you.

A last important note: Spring is our biggest fundraising season. Unfortunately, due to Illinois State University’s work-from-home requirements and social distancing mandates, fund drive has been postponed. We will also be facing a reduction in underwriting as our friends in the community close temporarily and postpone/cancel events.

All that being said, if you’ve never contributed to your public radio station or have the budget to increase your support, now is the time.

Stay healthy and help your neighbors. We will get through this by working together (at a safe social distance).

Please contact me anytime with questions or concerns.
