A 26-year-old Bloomington woman was charged with attempted murder Saturday after allegedly stabbing her mother 15 times inside their apartment.

Gwendolyn Calloway is accused of stabbing her mother in the chest and back at their apartment in the 2000 block of Rainbow Avenue, authorities said. The two women were also involved in an altercation Thursday, after which Calloway was briefly hospitalized for "mental health concerns," prosecutors said in court Saturday. Calloway's mother was attacked Saturday after returning to the apartment to pick up some medication, prosecutors said.

The mother was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said she's expected to survive.

Bloomington Police noticed a "strong odor of bleach" on Calloway at the apartment. She also had a plastic knife sheath, authorities said.

Calloway was charged with attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery. She is being held on $250,000 bond at the McLean County jail. She's due back in court Aug. 9.

While an arrest has been made, police say the investigation is ongoing. If you have information regarding this incident, please contact Detective Engle at (309) 434-2371 or McLean County Crime Stoppers at (309) 828-1111.
