It was not an ordinary Election Day in Belmar, N.J., one of the beach towns that was badly damaged by Superstorm Sandy. Some of the regular polling places were flooded, and town officials had to come up with new ways to get voters to the polls.

Hotel Rooms: A Precious Commodity Along N.J. Coast
FEMA is looking to put more displaced people in hotels, but in areas of coastal New Jersey, that's easier said than done. Rooms are incredibly hard to come by, as hotels are full with evacuees from the coast. Meanwhile, out-of-state workers who've come to help with the recovery have to sleep in the back of trucks.

Obama Pledges To Complete Economic Recovery
The nation's economy has been rebuilding since the recession ended in 2009, and in this election, the economy was a central issue from the beginning. Unemployment stands at 7.9 percent — slightly higher than when President Obama took office. In the end, the president handily rolled to re-election vowing to complete the country's recovery.

At least a dozen private equity firms are being investigated over their use of a questionable tax strategy, according to The New York Times. The state's attorney general is looking into whether the firms converted fees for managing funds into investment income — allowing it to be taxed at a much lower rate.
