  • Our music man in London, Charles de Ledesma (dih-leh-DEZ-muh) has the latest on a new musician making waves there -- Jimi Tenor. His music is what Charles calls "retro-futurist", combining 50s bebop, fusion jazz, and 1970s funk. Tenor collects old analog synthesizers, which give his music a distinct eclecticism. Arafat is trying to rally support against the Israeli government decision to build thousands of Jewish homes in East Jerusalem, a mostly Arab section of the city. The Israelis say they have every right to build the new homes, despite Palestinian claims that the construction violates the latest peace agreement.

  • NPR's Eric Westervelt reports that 39 immigrant detainees have been released from a prison in York, Pennsylvania. They are the last detainees held in York after they were arrested following the grounding of the Golden Venture, an ship that ran aground off the New York coast in 1993. Federal authorities arrested the immigrants ,who said they were fleeing China's oppressive policies, as part of an effort to crack down on illegal immigration. The townspeople of York took up the cause of the detainees, and helped secure their release.
