  • The Supreme Court sided with gay rights activists today by throwing out a Colorado constitutional amendment. The measure had said that laws could NOT be enacted that protected homosexuals from discrimination. The justices ruled against the amendment by a 6-to-3 vote. NPR's Nina Totenberg reports that the majority opinion said the amendment would have denied gays a political right enjoyed by other people...the right to seek protection against discrimination.

  • Chris Nuttall (NUT-ll) reports that Turkey has begun training the first contigent of soldiers from the Bosnian Federation Army. The army is composed of Muslim troops who are allied against the Bosnian Serb army. Turkey is teaching federation army soldiers how to use tanks and heavy artillery.
  • Daniel talks with Andy Griffith about his latest endeavor in show business...a gospel album. Griffith says it has always been his dream to be a singer and he was actually a music major in college. Although he is close to 70 years old, he claims his voice has gotten better with age. Brimelow argues that bilingualism gives the power to a minority rather than to the majority. Despite nearly a year's worth of preparation by the townspeople of Isola della Femine (EE-sole-uh della FEM-ee-nuh) the visit did NOT go off as planned.
  • Noah talks with Brian Cummings of the Bozo Frog Team. Cummings's three-legged frog, named "Three Legs are Better than None," won the 1996 World Class Championship Frog Jumping Jubilee on Sunday at the Calaveras County Fair in California. This is the third three-legged frog Cummings has entered in the Championship during his seventeen-year frog racing career.
  • NPR's Dan Charles reports that rain forecast for the Everglades is expected to hamper recovery efforts at the site. So far, NTSB investigators have recovered the caps of oxygen generators embedded in one of the tires the plane was carrying. An explosion and fire are suspected of causing the crash of Valujet 592 that killed 110 people last week. Questions are now being raised about the kind of fire detection and suppression equipment the DC-9 was carrying in the cargo section.
