Iraqi Casualties Estimated at 151,000
A recent national household survey conducted by The World Health Organization suggests that the number of Iraqi civilians and soldier deaths reached 151,000 between 2003 and 2006. The figure is about one-fourth of the number of deaths estimated in an earlier controversial study.

'Monkey' Blamed in U.S./Iran Boat Conflict
"I am coming to you. You will explode in a few minutes." Some are saying that threat, received by U.S. Navy ships in the Strait of Hormuz, may not have come from Iranian ships. David Brown, managing editor at Navy Times, reports that some blame the so-called "Filipino Monkey," a heckler or group of hecklers responsible for renegade radio chatter in the Persian Gulf for the last 25 years.

Colombian Rebels Free Two Female Hostages
Colombian rebels free two high-profile hostages, handing them over to emissaries of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. The hostages were former Colombian congresswoman Consuelo Gonzalez and Clara Rojas, an aide to Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt.

Climber Edmund Hillary, Everest Pioneer, Dies at 88
The first man to summit Mount Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary, has died. He was 88. In 1953, Hillary and his team reached the mountain's south peak. He and sherpa Tenzing Norgay were the only two to make the summit. Hillary's friend and fellow climber David Breashears says Hillary dedicated much of his life to supporting the Sherpas.

The president, on his first visit to Saudi Arabia, delivers a major arms deal aimed at countering Iran's perceived threat in the region.
Egypt's President Offers U.S. Help on Mideast Deal
President Bush, wrapping up a visit to the Middle East to promote peace in the region, got a boost Wednesday on his last stop in Egypt. Top Arab ally President Hosni Mubarak said he would work closely with the U.S. on a deal to create a Palestinian state.

Edmund Hillary, First Atop Everest, Dead at 88
Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to stand atop Mount Everest, died in Auckland, New Zealand. He was 88. Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, his Sherpa guide, were the first to conquer the world's highest mountain in 1953.
