Pulling the Threads
While disputes continue over recounts in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, all the other counties in Florida have done recounts of varying types. State law required a recount because of the narrowness of the margin between Bush and Gore. But the recount law is imprecise. So some counties simply checked the mechanics and the math...while others reran the ballots through tabulating machines. And some local officials manually examined ballots that had been rejected by the machines-- just as Democrats want to do in the three disputed counties. NPR's Peter Overby reports.
