She is pursuing a double major in public relations and political science at Illinois State University. She also works for NBC Universal Studios and ISU's Bone Student Center.

With a long-standing research interest in primate behavior and human evolution, King has studied baboon foraging in Kenya and gorilla and bonobo communication at captive facilities in the United States.
