U.S. Violent Crime Rises at Pace Unseen in 10 Years
According to the FBI, violent crime in the United States is on the rise. Last year saw the biggest jump since the early 1990s. Criminologists say there are many possible reasons, from cutbacks in funding for federal crime-prevention programs to a greater focus on terrorism and a resurgence of gangs.

Popocatépetl volcano spews smoke and ash, putting millions of Mexicans on alert
Mexico has deployed some 7,000 soldiers to the area of the volcano, which is near Mexico City, in case an evacuation becomes necessary. More than 25 million people live within 60 miles of the peak.

A group that Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder appointed to investigate the cause of the Flint water crisis released its report Wednesday, putting much of the blame for Flint's lead-contaminated water on the state's environmental regulators. But it also blames a state law that was set up to save cities like Flint from financial collapse.

Scheduled Flights To Cuba Approved For As Early As This Fall
The Department of Transportation has authorized six U.S. airlines to schedule round-trip flights from the U.S to some cities in Cuba. The DOT has not yet approved any flights to Havana.
