Man gets 13-year sentence for setting apartment fire in Bloomington
A man who set fire to an apartment building in Bloomington in May has been sentenced to 13 years in prison. Anthony Hughlett, 45, of Gibson City, pleaded guilty Tuesday to an attempted murder charge in McLean County court.

Individuals' Rights Key in Landmark D.C. Gun Case
The Supreme Court on Tuesday heard arguments on the District of Columbia's law that essentially bans handguns in the city. Courts historically have interpreted the right to bear arms as a collective right, linked to military service and state militias. But on Tuesday, a majority of justices indicated that they believe it's an individual right.

Federal prisons saw a significant rise in deaths during the pandemic years, NPR found. Of those who died from COVID-19, nearly all were elderly or had health conditions, and many had tried to get out.
