Michael Madigan sentenced to 7 ½ years for corruption convictions
Michael Madigan, the country’s longest-serving state House leader, served as speaker of the Illinois House from 1983 until 2021, with the exception of two years. Along the way, he developed a reputation as an all-powerful political wizard who wielded vast influence over laws affecting nearly every aspect of life in the state.
Audit: Normal Finances In Good Shape
Moviegoers visiting the historic Normal Theater now can add a brew to their view. On Tuesday, the town council voted to allow alcohol sales at regular events there, as well as in surrounding areas in Uptown, during certain town-sponsored events and festivals.
10-day sales tax reduction on clothing, school supplies begins Friday
Beginning Friday and lasting through Aug. 14, the state will reduce its sales tax rate from 6.25 percent to 1.25 percent for certain clothing items costing less than $125 and school supplies.
Memo Notes Utah Mine Had Previous Cave-In
The mine cave-in last week in Utah was the second collapse at the Crandall Canyon. One last spring was in a section near where the six miners are now trapped. According to a consultant's memo, the earlier cave-in caused the company to abandon that section of the mine.
