Pulitzer Board Revamps Criteria for Music Prize
In an effort to encourage a broader range of entries from American composers, administrators of the prestigious Pulitzer Prize have decided to expand their definition of "serious" music. Since 1943, the Pulitzer Prize for music has been awarded exactly once to either a jazz composition, musical drama or film score. Dan Charles Reports On The National Transportation Safety Board's
announcement yesterday that a French manufacturer -- and French aviation authorities -- should bear the blame for a deadly airplane crash in Indiana in 1994. According to the NTSB, the ATR Corporation failed to warn pilots that one of its planes was vulnerable to ice formation on its wings. Just such a build-up of ice caused the crash of American Eagle flight 4184, killing 68 people.
