The Senate Judiciary committee voted 13-6 Tuesday to approve Judge Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court. All the Democrats on the committee voted for her along with one Republican, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.

Will The Bailout Bill Pass In The House This Time?
Lawmakers in the House of Representatives are expected to vote Friday on a revised Wall Street rescue bill. Lawmakers there rejected the plan Monday by 23 votes. The Senate passed a modified version of the package Wednesday. Now some House members will have to become vote switchers, a label no one likes, in order for the bill to pass.

Russian Parliament May Pass Anti-Gay Law
The Russian parliament is expected to give final approval this week to a bill that would make it illegal to expose children to information about homosexuality. Russian law experts say the courts would likely rule against the legislation because it violates the Russian constitution's ban on discrimination. Even so, authorities could use it to harass specific organizations or visitors from abroad such as Madonna who spoke in favor of gay rights during a concert in St. Petersburg last year. And the legislation could curry favor among conservatives whom Putin has been courting since returning to the presidency.
