Dubrovinik Charge
Geraldine Coughlan reports from The Hague that the international war crimes tribunal has handed down indictments related to attacks by Yugoslav forces on the city of Dubrovnik in 1991 during Croatia's war of independence. The court has not revealed the names of the defendants nor released the text of the indictment. The individuals named have been charged with murder, attacks on civilians and destruction of historic monuments -- in breach of the 1949 Geneva Conventions. The medieval walled city of Dubrovnik, on the Adriatic coast, has been designated a world heritage site by the United Nations.

U.S. Factory in Mexico
NPR's John Burnett reports that workers in a U-S owned factory in Mexico, are trying to form a labor union. Their demands include a ventilated working area, and compensated overtime. In the past, the company has fired workers for attempting to unionize.

Washington Earthquake Recovery
NPR's Wendy Kaufman reports that President Bush has declared parts of Washington state a federal disaster area. Damage from Wednesday's earthquake is estimated at around 2-billion dollars.

New Nuclear Reactor
NPR's David Kestenbaum reports on a new type of nuclear reactor that may be an affordable and safe energy source. Pebble Bed Reactors may make melt-downs less likely, and nuclear waste safer to store.

New Korean Film
David D'Arcy reports on the South Korean film Joint Security Area. The movie is set along the border between North and South Korea, and shows soldiers from both countries drinking, playing games and talking to each other -- all images officially banned a few years ago. The film premiered for an international audience last month at the Berlin film festival.

Yugoslavia Update
NPR's Sylvia Poggioli reports from Belgrade that Serbian prosecutors today asked police to begin investigating former president Slobodan Milosevic. Prosecutors want to know more about reports that he transferred gold out of the country. It's Serbia's first legal move against Milosevic and is expected to lead to his arrest. Two days ago, the Serbian parliament passed an amnesty law -- its first major piece of legislation aimed at restoring social peace after a decade of war and upheaval.
Selling the Tax Plan
NPR's Don Gonyea reports that President Bush is hitting the road to sell his tax cut plan to Americans. In Nebraska, Iowa, and Pennsylvania, the president told citizens that the issue at hand is not rich vs. poor, but big government vs. small.

Embassy Bombing Trial
NPR's Melissa Block reports on the federal trial of four men believed to be involved in the bombings of two U.S. Embassies in Africa. One of the suspects, who claims he played no part in the 1998 attacks, says he was instructed to leave the country four months before the bombing even occurred.
