Author Loretta Napoleoni says Jordanian Abu Musab al-Zarqawi gained international attention when Colin Powell mentioned his name at a U.N. Assembly in 2003. At the time he was not a member of al-Qaeda, but it was enough to inflate his image and role. Zarqawi's role eventually grew, as he became the most wanted militant in Iraq.

FDA announces plans to ease the shortage of baby formula
Abbott, one of the largest formula-makers in the U.S., has reached an agreement with the government to bring a closed factory back on line. And the FDA is easing some restrictions on imported formula.

The president of China arrives in the United States and drops in on the richest man in the world, Bill Gates. The Microsoft magnate hosted a reception for Hu Jintao at his mansion in the Seattle area. Hu will move on to meetings with President Bush in Washington, D.C.

The Supreme Court hears arguments on whether police are required to inform foreign nationals of their right to talk to their countries' consulates when arrested. A 1969 treaty provides that right; the court considers whether police bear the burden of informing the suspect of that right.

New Studies: Low-Fat Diets Don't Prevent Cancers
Three studies of post-menopausal women show low-fat diets don't prevent heart disease, breast cancer or colon cancer. The report appears in Wednesday's Journal of the American Medical Association. Two years ago, the same studies showed that hormone replacement therapy didn't prevent disease.

Denmark Battles Muslim Backlash over Cartoons
The Danish government tries to mollify Muslims angry over cartoons depicting Muhammad that were first published in a Danish newspaper. But it has not condemned their publication. As protest continues around the world, Copenhagen is demanding protection for its diplomats and citizens.
