California Aims to Slash Port Pollution
Ocean ports are among the last major unregulated sources of concentrated pollution in the country. The biggest are the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. But there's a new man in charge. Tough-talking David Freeman, who helped establish the Environmental Protection Agency says he's going to slash pollution at Southern California's ports by 80 percent.

'Da Vinci Code' Author Wins Copyright Case
A judge rules that mega-selling author Dan Brown did not steal ideas for The Da Vinci Code from the nonfiction work The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail. The ruling will allow a film based on the book and starring Tom Hanks to open as scheduled on May 19. Steve Inskeep talks to David Hooper, an intellectual-property lawyer in Britain.

French Students Take to Streets Against Job Law
Swarms of French demonstrators take to the streets in protest of a new law that would make it easier to fire workers younger than 26. The protests draw hundreds of thousands of people. Some of the protesters attack police, who respond with tear gas and paint bullets.

Aid Arriving in Indonesia Quake Zone
Emergency aid is arriving in Indonesia to help areas devastated by this weekend's earthquake. The Indonesian government estimates that more than 5,000 people died in the quake. Alex Chadwick speaks with Barry Came, a spokesman for the United Nations World Food Program, about relief efforts in Yogyakarta, near the epicenter of Saturday's quake.

The alleged Buffalo shooter livestreamed the attack. How sites can stop such videos
Using a GoPro camera attached to a helmet, the shooter streamed live on the site Twitch for two minutes before the stream was taken down. By then it was too late, and the video has spread elsewhere.
Scholars Propose Way Out of Iran Confrontation
The U.N. Security Council sets Friday as the deadline for Iran to suspend its uranium-enrichment program. Iran is threatening to hide its nuclear activity if the West takes "harsh measures" against the country. A new proposal from two Harvard scholars could make peace between Iran and the United States.

Data Still Leaking from U.S. Base in Afghanistan
Reports that portable computer memory drives, often called flash drives, have been smuggled off a U.S. air base in Afghanistan and sold at local markets are raising concerns about military security. Officials at the base at Bagram, near the capital of Kabul and a hub for U.S. military activity in the nation, has tried to beef up security -- but according to The Los Angeles Times, the problem still exists. Alex Chadwick talks to Keith Kluwe, a former soldier who once worked at the base.

Drought Threatens Millions in Horn of Africa
In the Horn of Africa, a drought is killing livestock across a wide swath of Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia. The United Nations estimates that more than 6 million people in the region are at risk of running out of food and water as a result of the drought if aid doesn't arrive soon.

Political Strategies Shift in New Abortion Landscape
Recent changes in abortion laws have turned abortion politics upside down. Republicans who have been promoting abortion restrictions as part of their campaigns are worried that sweeping state bans might scare away swing voters. Democrats are using those same bans to paint Republicans as extreme.
