Editors note: this interview is part of a special edition of Sound Ideas celebrating WGLT's 50th anniversary.

When former General Manager Bruce Bergethon was hired in 1988, his trajectory was clear: serve as program director until previous General Manager Ben Paxton retired and then possibly become GM. Bruce ended up serving as the station's leader for 25 years, retiring at the end of 2015. In this conversation, Bruce touches on jazz, content delivery systems, and the future of radio. He says when Paxton left, he inherited a good operation. Bergethon tells WGLT's Mike McCurdy he also stepped into the early stages of a programming change so GLT could distinguish itself from other classical music public radio stations and to increase the station's range with a new, more powerful transmitter.
