B-N Elected Officials Promise To 'Work Together'

Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner called the just-concluded presidential election campaign possibly the most divisive in the country's history.

Renner was one of about a dozen elected officials in McLean County who spoke at an event organized by Bloomington Alderman Scott Black and broadcast live during GLT's Sound Ideas.

Black said he wanted the community's elected officials to demonstrate to the public how they will work to get past the election and its results. He said one of his main concerns was the fact people are un-friending and un-following others on social media.

McLean County Board member Victoria Harris, who lost her bid for re-election last week, said moving forward is a better option than doing nothing or languishing in despair.

"I have increasing appreciation for what we can do locally when we move ahead, when we have some kind of civil discourse and strategies to get the things that we want to get to make our community better," Harris told the crowd of about 40 people.

Bloomington Alderman Amelia Buragas said council members in both Bloomington and Normal and McLean County board members have demonstrated that cooperation is the way to get things done.

"We work together to make a better community," she said. " We will continue to do so and we will continue to be an example for those around us and to try to aspire to greater heights," she concluded.
