A new report from the Anti-Defamation League showed the number of anti-semitic attacks in the U.S. more than doubled from 2017 to 2018. Most recently, it was a shooting during a Passover service in San Diego.
Bloomington’s Moses Montefiore Congregation is honoring Holocaust Remembrance Day on Thursday by showing a documentary on a planned anti-semitic march in Illinois in the late 1970s. The film “Surviving Skokie” follows one family’s painful journey through the Holocaust and the ties to modern day anti-semitism.
At a time of heightened concern, Rabbi Rebecca Dubowe said the documentary is needed.
“It is (an) unfortunate reminder that there are still people—like what has happened to our friends and brothers and sisters during the times of the Holocaust—that they were murdered simply because they were Jewish," she said.
Dubowe said she hopes the film encourages members from all faiths to join the conversation.
“The more we are informed, the more that we are educated, it will create a better world of understanding and living together.”
Dubowe encourages members from all faiths to attend the remembrance day event at 7 p.m. Thursday at Moses Montefiore Temple in Bloomington.
