WGLT announces yearlong music performance series: Highway 309 LIVE presented by CEFCU
On Public Radio Music Day, WGLT celebrates our history and deep roots in music, from Delta Frank, the Blues Doctor, to our recently wrapped 20-year run of Summer Concert. We’re also celebrating a new beginning with today’s announcement of a yearlong series to debut in 2023: WGLT’s Highway 309 LIVE presented by CEFCU.
Highway 309 is WGLT’s handcrafted music service which premiered in 2019. The service features a diverse array of local, national, and international artists that encompasses WGLT's heritage of blues and folk while including pop, rock, soul, gospel, Americana, country, and more. Highway 309 is committed to highlighting at least 50% women and artists of color. The music service streams online 24/7 and on WGLT 89.1 FM on the weekends, in addition to WCBU Peoria Public Radio and WVIK Rock Island.
WGLT’s Highway 309 LIVE presented by CEFCU will continue to champion local and new music. The series will bring artists from radio to stage to share intimate details of their life, artistic process and more. Highway 309 LIVE aspires to be part NPR Tiny Desk part World Café. Artists will perform a selection of songs, and WGLT’s Music Director Ariele Jones and Highway 309 creator Jon Norton will interview artists in front of a live audience. The events will be recorded for use on-air and online where possible, making the content even more accessible to a wider audience.
CEFCU has supported the WGLT Summer Concert since 2010, and we’re thrilled to have them on board for this new initiative.
“Central Illinois has a thriving music scene, and we’re excited to continue our partnership with WGLT in support of live and local music,” said Martha Kamp, community relations manager at CEFCU. “Highway 309 LIVE presented by CEFCU will help cultivate a unique sense of place that only community events can do.”
