WGLT earns 3 national awards from Public Media Journalists Association

 PMJA national awards

WGLT has earned three national awards for exceptional Digital Writing, Newscast, and Photojournalism from the Public Media Journalists Association (PMJA).

The awards were announced Saturday by PMJA, which annually awards journalists across the country. WGLT competes in Division B, based on staff size.

WGLT earned second place in the Digital Writing category for a story from Ryan Denham titled, "No, the expiring Uptown TIF and Rivian tax breaks won’t solve Unit 5's financial problems." His story deconstructs how other sources of additional tax revenue may (or may not) help McLean County Unit 5 school district address its budget deficit.

Additionally, WGLT earned second place in the Newscast category for an exceptional newscast from Charlie Schlenker in which he details the impacts of the Russian war in Ukraine on various industries and updates on local crime.

Lastly, WGLT earned first place in Photojournalism for a photo from student photographer Emily Bollinger that captured the crowd at a Leah Marlene concert in Uptown Normal.
