WGLT has earned a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence. It's the first time the station has earned this prestigious award since 2015.

The award was announced Tuesday by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). Of the awards given to journalists, the Murrow Awards are among the most respected journalism awards in the world.

WGLT earned Overall Excellence honors in the Small Market Radio category for Region 7, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Regional winners automatically advance to the national competition, winners of which will be announced in August.

WGLT's Overall Excellence entry included a wide variety of local reporting — from hard-news investigations to human-interest features — plus WGLT's digital products like WGLT.org and our podcasts.

The Murrow Awards are the embodiment of the values, principles and standards set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.

WGLT, Bloomington-Normal’s Public Media, is part of the NPR Network licensed to and operating from Illinois State University in Normal. You can learn more about WGLT's history of award-winning journalism on our Awards page.
