A Bloomington man is in custody now charged with stabbing to death both of his parents during a weekend incident just west of the city.

25-year old Brian Petersen is charged with 2 counts of first degree murder after allegedly stabbing his mother, 63-year old Nancy Petersen and his father, 68-year old Bruce Petersen. The incident occurred at the Petersen home, on Lara Trace, just off Route 9 in rural west Bloomington.

Nancy Petersen was pronounced dead at the scene when officials arrived shortly after 9 am Sunday. Bruce Petersen died later in the day at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, after being transferred there from Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal. The McLean County Sheriff's office and other agencies continue to investigate.

A custody hearing for Brian Petersen is set for this afternoon at 2 pm in McLean County court.
